PATRIOTIC SERVICE DOG FOUNDATION
The first thing you read on this organization’s website is that an estimated 460,000 veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars alone, struggle with PTSD or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and that each day, 22 of these veterans will take their lives. At this extraordinary foundation, wounded veterans with serious problems are paired with dogs that meet their specific needs.
Founder Tom Tackett, an obedience and protection dog trainer for forty years, began his foray into service dog training when his daughter became ill. After many anxious visits to the doctor, Tom’s daughter asked if their dog, Indy, a Labrador Retriever, could come along. Indy became a beloved fixture at the doctor’s office, behaving beautifully, and reducing stress dramatically. Word got out and suddenly a neighbor with a daughter who had spinal cancer asked if Tom could train a dog to help the girl in her wheelchair. After that, someone at Camp Pendleton heard about Tom and sent a Marine who had lost a leg to see him, along with his Doberman. Tom then trained the dog to help him. Finally, with the help of some good friends, Patriotic Service Dog Foundation, a non-profit, was created.
Tom has an extraordinary ability to sense which dog is right for each potential handler. He and his organization have changed the lives of many veterans with precise training and a tremendous amount of care.

PATRIOTIC SERVICE DOG FOUNDATION was established to provide highly trained service dogs to those in need that can benefit from a service dog at little or no cost to the recipients, including but not limited to wounded service men and women of the United States Military Forces. Through donations solicited from the general public the organization will provide support for the raising, care, and training of service dogs from puppyhood to Certification with a recipient as a "Service Dog Team". We will also support the ongoing dog/recipient training as needed to ensure a mutually beneficial dog/recipient relationship.
Patriotic Service Dog Foundation will offer education and community outreach to increase public awareness about service dogs and will sponsor special events in the local communities involving service dogs generally.
